CUBIS secure Manchester Metrolink order

CUBIS Industries has secured a significant order to supply access chambers and cable duct protection systems to the Manchester Metrolink project.
CUBIS products will be installed over the next 2 years by M-Pact Thales on the new Airport line which will connect Manchester city centre to the international airport.
MULTIduct™, STAKKAbox™ ULTIMA preformed access chambers and AX-S™ Concrete Covers will be used to protect and provide access to power and signaling cables over 14.5km of new track.
MULTIduct™ is a multiple duct bank system, manufactured from HDPE, designed originally to be buried under track in the rail environment but used in this instance to carry the cables through 100m long assembled ducts which then interface with the STAKKAbox™ ULTIMA access chamber. MULTIduct™ lies straight and flat in the trench meaning ducts do not twist and cabling is much easier when compared to flexible duct.

Unlike conventional methods of constructing duct banks, MULTIduct™ does not require spacers, concrete surround or extensive excavation. Sections are available in 4, 6 and 9 way options and the system is easily constructed by clipping together 1m long sections. Each section weighs less than 25kg, making it fast and safe to install.
MULTIduct™ has a strong, structural design meaning it does not require a concrete surround when used in other environments but for this application it will be surrounded with concrete in order to create walkways. Even with this added cost, the system offers considerable savings in materials and labour over the precast concrete system that had been originally designed.

CUBIS has been working on various Manchester Metrolink upgrade projects for 4 years alongside our partner WT Burdens, supplying products on the East Manchester, Oldham and Rochdale and South Manchester lines.
CUBIS knowledge of the demands of the rail industry is compounded by extensive work within Network Rail, SNCF and tramways in Edinburgh, Blackpool and Brest.
